Chhau is a semi-classical Indian dance form that originated in the Purulia district of West Bengal. The Purulia style is characterised by large, evocative masks and elaborate costumes that enhance the energetic performances. The Chhau masks allow the artists to embody various characters, including Lakshman, Kartik, Arjuna, Durga, Parvati, and Saraswati.
In 2018, these masks received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag and are registered on the List of Geographical Indications. Skilled artisans and craftsmen, who have dedicated years to mastering this technique, create these exquisite masks. We are trying to revive the old designs of the Chhau masks from the 19th century, and we are proud to present it to the world.
